Last Tuesday night Zachary’s football team, the Mowbray Rangers Tigers, were privileged to appear as escorts at the Leicester Foxes football match. We all went to the game and supported our son and our team.
Where we are located, one is either a Foxes or a Forest (Nottingham) fan. Sure you could be a fan of Liverpool, Arsenal, Man City, etc…but if you are supporting your local club it is one of these two. Before we even came over here I decided that I would be a Foxes fan, and I have tried to follow them the best I can. They are technically doing better than Forest, but neither are Premier League teams, rather in the division just below (NPower Championship).
Zachary was taken behind the scenes, came out with the players, shook hands with the opposing team (Charlton) and the refs, and came back to our seat. He got a free t-shirt and an opportunity that all football playing kids would like to take part in. There were around 30 of us adults and kids from the club and we had great seats right behind the goal. The night was bitter cold, below freezing and clear out, but we rooted on the Foxes to…a loss. I actually was disappointed in the quality of the football, and Zachary’s coach agreed. In fact, the Foxes coach later said it was one of the worst played of the season (great, our introductory game). But we still had fun and did something different. They drew about 23,000 fans into their stadium which holds 32,000. Not bad for a Tuesday night. In Portland the MLS Timbers always sell out at around 21,000.
I think we would have taken more photos if it was not so damn cold. I mean it was COLD. I did visit the Foxes Team Shop and it was HUGE. I thought they might have a few different T-shirts, but not 50! Or one or two polo shirts, but not 30 different ones! Subsequently we got a few things for ourselves and for friends back home. A good night, but I want to go back when it is a bit warmer.
